Grand Success - Thanks to All - The Finance Minister Dared Not to Come to the Event !!!

By Pokhreli Ranjan on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 8:04pm

Dear friends,

First off, I would like to congratulate all for making this protest event a grand success. The Finance Minister, Bharat Mohan Adhikari was nowhere to be seen in the event. Fearing a huge backlash and public outcry, he rather remained absent in the program. But we went ahead and delivered what we had planned. We distributed the banners against corruption and expressed our dissent. We would like to take this moment to thank all who silently or actively supported our cause by either being present at the protest or by outright boycotting the ANS program. The success of the protest program will remain historic and symbolic in the sense that we hope it will inspire others to stand for the nation, rising above all political and ideological horizons.

We would especially like to thank social media, specially MySansar blog, मेरो मातृभूमी, and Facebook for spreading this protest event. A million thanks to Sir Rameshore Prasad Khanal for being the silverlining of hope. A hope, that a day will surely come, when a million tiny stars will join hands to sparkle the darkest of nights. That we can shape better future of Nepal for generations to come even when the imposing wall of abusive power comes crashing on you and your determined fist bleeds. You are truly our hero, Khanal sire !!

We strongly believe that this momentum of struggle will continue and spread across Nepal and other parts of globe with Nepali diaspora. Inspired by this, a huge number of people are encouraging us to formally create a social activism forum that will work as a watch-dog. Preparations are now underway to create such a transparent democratic network, while remaining vigilant of the risk of being "just another mushrooming organization". Your guidance and suggestions are highly appreciated at ocranjan@gmail.com .

Once again a million thanks for all your goodwill, support and today's success.

Citizen Activism Starts Right from Your Heart: Attend the Program to Protest Against Finance Minister's Move

By Pokhreli Ranjan on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 3:15pm

We often bicker and complain about the sorry state of our nation. Everybody wants to praise Finance Secretary Rameshwore Khanal, nobody wants to walk his steps. Everybody wants to stay in the comfort of their homes and argue on computer screen about "यो भएन, त्यो भएन, नेपाल खत्तम". I have done the same and am as guilty as all for the sorry state of Nepal.

The recent VAT Fraud is one of the biggest financial scandals of our times set to destroy our generation's collective future. The major corporate houses used FAKE VAT bills to hold OUR tax money that was supposed to go to the national treasury. With billions of rupees involved in this fraud, the corporate houses orchestrated this to demolish the whole tax structure of Nepal.

The Finance Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikary not only forced the Finance Secretary to resign but he flies around the world pretending as if nothing has happened. Adding insult to our generation's collective wisdom, the America Nepal Society has invited him to a program as a guest. There are handfuls of stooges who will benefit from this but this will establish a precedent in Nepal that honesty and integrity of people like Finance Secretary will always lose and corruption will always win. If you really really care about Nepal, please please please be there at the program to protest. Citizen activism starts right from your footstep and your heart.

Let's protest against this brazen move of ANS hosting the FM. Let's send a clear message to the Minister and his stooges that they better spend time doing first things first, like drafting the constitution, and that people are against his corrupt ministerial leadership and his illegal nexus with the corporate houses.

Come be a part of a movement of what is right for the country. A day will come when you will ask yourself, "Apart from complaining, what did you actually do to your country?” I am sure you would want to be the architect of your future not the victim of the present.
