Satoshi Ishii vs Jeff Monson Fight Video - M-1 Challenge 42

MMA fight between Jeff Monson (USA) vs Stoshi Ishii (Japan) is the main event of M-1 Challenge 42. Beijing Olympic gold medalist Ishii won the fight with unanimous decision over two times ADCC Submission Wrestling World Champion, Monson. Except some beautiful judo throws from Ishii, there was nothing exciting on this fight. Ishii was able take down Monson at his will but Monson was unable to maneuver any submission skill on judoka at any point during the fight.

Lyoto Machida knock out Mark Munoz at UFC 140

Machida knocked out Munoz with a devastating left head at 3:10 minutes of the first round at UFC 140 fight in Manchester, England. More than anything else after watching this video, I have a great respect to Machida for his sportsmanship. Once he landed kick, he moved for kill but he stopped himself immediately realizing that Munoz was passing out. Further more he bowed his opponent out of respect and this is a very rare scene in MMA arena. Salute to Machida for his true warrior spirit and all the best for his middle weight division carrier.

Beginner Weight Training: Three Day Split Workout

Outline:
  • Training Level: Beginner to Intermediate
  • Main Goal: Loose weight and build muscle
  • Days Per Week: 3 days
  • Workout Type: Split set
  • Muscle Movement: Push, Pull, and Other
I am posting this blog post in response to request from my family and friends for weight training tips/guidelines. I hope this beginner to intermediate level workout program will be useful to individuals interested in loosing weight/body fat and building muscle. This is a classic 3 days a week split workout program. Workout is divided into three days according to major muscle movement. For example, Day 1 is assigned for PUSH type of exercise (chest and triceps), Day 2 is for PULL type (back and biceps), and Day 3 is for OTHERS type (leg and shoulder). Everyday, we workout for one major muscle group and one minor muscle group. For example, for Day1, chest is a major muscle group and triceps is a minor muscle group. It is recommended that you train every alternate day; do not workout everyday.

Dream 2011 Results: Fedor Emelianenko Vs Satoshi Ishii

Fedor Emelianenko knocked out Satoshi Ishii in 2:29 of Round 1 in DREAM Heavyweight match held in Saitama, Japan on December 30th, 2011. When I first heard about this bout, my thought was what the hell Ishii going to do? He is a Judo Olympic champion but new to the MMA world. Although, Fedor had three consecutive loss in a row before his last fight, he is still one of the best and dangerous heavy weight fighter. He has tremendous edge over Ishii both in experience and striking departments. Ishii should wait more for this match. This is exactly the outcome what I was expecting. I think this is a worst decision made by Ishii and his team. Hope to see more improved Ishii in future.

Brock Lesnar vs Alistair Overeem Result: UFC 141

Alistair Overeem defeated Brock Lesnar at 2:26 of the first round by TKO (strike). Congratulations Overeem! what an impressive first round victory over Brock Lesnar. Overeem, underdog on eyes of many US MMA fan, totally demolished superstar Lasnar. With this victory Overeem will face Junior Dos Santos for the UFC heavy weight championship title. Surprisingly, Lesnar announced his retirement from MMA. Let's give a big hand to Lesnar for putting up this show and his short lived but exciting presence in MMA.

Alistair Overeem Vs Fabricio Werdum (II): Strike Force 2011

This is a perfect example of one dimensional fight i.e., striker vs grappler. Alistar Overeem is a well decorated kickboxer. He is K1 2010 World Grand Prix champion and considered one of the best striker in heavyweight division. On the other hand, Fabricio Werdum is Brazilian Jiu-Justu Black Belt. He is a two time Brazilian Jiu-Jutsu World Champion, two time ADCC World Heavyweight champion and European Jiu-Jutsu champion. Despite of both fighter's outstanding achievement in their respective game, they could not bring excitement on the ring. Most of the MMA fan do not enjoy such one dimensional fight. This fight is exactly a showcase of how fighter can not finish fight decisively if they rely only on either striking or submission. Hope to see more well rounded fight from Oveereem in his upcoming fight with Brock Lesnar...

Recovery of My Mallet Finger Injury in Judo Training

I injured my right pinky (little/small finger) while practicing judo on Tuesday 6th September evening. It didn't hurt and I even didn't realize my injury except slight discomfort. I finished my training as usual and then hop into driver seat of my car. I suddenly felt something strange on my right hand grip while trying to hold steering. Only at this point, I realized that my pinky is snapped and dropped downward. I tried to make it straight but it wasn't moving anymore. My first thought was, it just bent due to the pressure and eventually straighten back after some time. I didn't bother much. Just wrapped with first aid tape to keep it straight.

Next day, I woke up late and went to college right after my lunch. I had to teach soil mechanics lab. There I mentioned about my injury. Immediately, one of my student, Gijsbers Devon, told me that this a common injury and can be fixed with splint. She recommended me to keep my finger straight all the time and go to Walgreen to buy splint. Unfortunately, Walgreen salesmen told me that they don't carry any such splint. I thought ok...and decided to visit doctor next day. Following the morning, I went to NMSU Student Health Center. Nurse checked my finger thoroughly and refer to technician for X-ray. She diagnosed it as a "mallet finger" and gave me plastic splint to wear immediately. And, asked to come back tomorrow to visit doctor. Next day, on Friday, 9th September, doctor told me that I need a surgery if I want to make my finger straight. Oh, no...I was worried at this point, especially about surgery procedure, recovery time, and expenses for whole procedure etc. But, I had no choice. I wanted to heal perfectly without odd looking finger. Doctor, recommended me to Las Cruces Orthopedic Center for surgery.

Three Reasons Why Not Tapping is Dumb in MMA/Grapling

When you caught in choke or joint lock in MMA or grappling match, it is always wise to tap out rather than showing yourself tough. Failing to tap out could result broken bone, torn ligaments, pass out, and bump in sport carrier. Here are the three top reason why not tapping is dumb.

1. Broken Bone and Torn Ligaments
2. Choke Out/ Pass Out
3. Carrier Bump

1. Broken Bone and Torn Ligaments
Broken bone or torn ligament are painful and its effects could last through out your life. Here is a video why you need to tap out.

2. Choke Out/ Pass Out
There is a famous saying "tap out or pass out". Constriction in neck area prevents blood/oxygen circulation to the brain resulting temporary pass out/unconscious. Lack of oxygen/blood to the brain could have potential to cause moderate to severe brain cell death leading to permanent loss of neurological function (Fainting Game: Wikipedia). So be sure to tap out before lights go out.

3. Carrier Bump
Severe injury such as fracture or broken bone or torn ligament keep you away from sport temporarily or sometime permanently. So, always play smart. In fact, tapping out during submission makes you winner because you can come back to fight next day to win.
News Update: Legendary MMA fighter and submission specialist, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will be out of the fight for at least nine months due to his broken arm. This injury could potentially end fighting carrier of Nogueira.

Learn Judo - Basic Judo Techniques

Judo-the gentle way

Judo (柔道, meaning "gentle way") is a Japanese martial art created by by Dr. Jigoro Kano in 1882. It is a refinement of the ancient martial art of Jujutsu (柔術). The aim of judo is to utilize physical and mental strength most effectively. In broader sense, Judo is an art, a discipline, a means of self defense or combat and a way of life. It is best known for its spectacular throw or takedown but is also involve grappling maneuver to pin/immobilize opponent or, joint lock, trangle hold or choke to force opponent to submit.
Ethos of Judo is base on two main principles Seiryoku Zenyo(精力善用)and Jita Kyoei (自他共栄). Seiryoku Zenyo translates to maximum efficient or worthy use of human efforts (the most effective way of doing something) and Jita Kyoei translates to mutual benefit.
