Sick Around the World: A Documentary by PBS FRONTLINE
I found this documentary while searching United Healthcare Insurance Policy. Four years ago, United Healthcare denied my claim which I treated in Campus Health Center at New Mexico University. Recently, I am treating my mallet finger injury from Judo training. I visited orthopedic at El Paso because of a referral from NMSU Health Center. Now, I guess United Healthcare is trying to deny my claim. They sent me several paper works including verification of my enrollment (obviously they know, I am a Teaching Assistant and part of my premium is paid by NMSU), name of the doctor and hospital I visited within one year, and so on... What a crazy! I have been paying premium to this company for six years and they never asked me anything at all. Now, when time came to pay back for my injury, they are making all sort of drama to avoid paying back... Anyway, this is my side of story. And, what I found is, there are so many people suffering from crappy insurance policy...Check this documentary for more information.
In Sick Around the World, FRONTLINE teams up with veteran Washington Post foreign correspondent T.R. Reid to find out how five other capitalist democracies -- the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, Taiwan and Switzerland -- deliver health care, and what the United States might learn from their successes and their failures.

My Thought on Controlling Population Migration from Rural to Urban Areas in Nepal
Migration of people from village to
city is becoming an epidemic problem in Nepal. With a lack of proper urban
planning, mass migration of people creating a serious housing problem in cities
and livelihood issues in rural areas. Eventually, unplanned population
migration adversely affects economic development of our nation. Danchi (団地), a housing system implemented in postwar
Japan could be a good model for Nepal to manage the influx of people in urban
and sub-urban areas. Danchi is a multi-unit apartment complex and Kathmandu is an excellent candidate for this housing
system. Similarly, development of residential areas in villages make easy to
develop infrastructures and provide basic needs to people living in rural
areas.
We have to
revolutionize our agriculture practice for sustainable development of rural
areas in order to minimize population migration from village to city .
Currently, our agriculture practice is still in a pre-medieval stage. People in
village spend their time just keeping one cow and couple of goats (this is just
a typical example)...or planting some small plots of land. This is just waste
of time and their efforts. In order to increase productivity, agriculture
practices should be done in large scale with modern equipment and
technology. The increase in productivity and availability of basic
services--housing, water, electricity, education, health etc., inspire them
stay where they are, and eventually, help improve national economy.

Human Psyche On Underground Structures
Summary
Recently,
utilization of underground spaces has been dramatically increased for the
public and private uses in urban areas due to the lack of available land
spaces. However, negative image of underground structures throughout the
world’s population seems to be obstacles for the optimal utilization of the
underground spaces. A large proportion of the population show natural
reluctance to go underground structures and “many people claim to have feelings
of apprehension and even anxiety when they descend into a subway or an
underground park” (Sterling and Godard, 2004, p. 6). A common problem with the
underground facilities is the “feeling of danger and entrapment” (Ringstad,
1994, p. 5). Despite the fact that the underground structures are eco-friendly
and safer than above ground structure in many natural hazards such as
earthquake, hurricane, tornado etc., there is very limited research in this
field. An understanding of people’s image of underground space will therefore
be useful in predicting the most likely psychological responses to underground
facilities for public use; and this may be helpful in developing design
solutions for the underground space (Ringstad, 1994).
Experimental
research was carried out among the graduate level international students in
order to evaluate people’s fundamental psychological reaction towards the
underground space and analyze the influence of design factors on people’s
perception. More than fifty percentage of the population showed feeling of
unsafe while in underground, where the loss of connection to the outer world
was most fear provoking factor. People’s psychological reactions showed that
the safety assurance and the suitable architectural design parameters positively
influence the people’s perception on underground structures. Further researches
to incorporate more detailed psychological aspects of human being and influence
of design parameters are needed.
